Linear No Threshold Model - Applied to Fukushima

This WSJ article provides a nice little bit about the doses and cancer risk from Fukushima. I'm not going to summarize it because y'all should read it.  In radiation dose/ risk there is a continuing debate over the effects of low doses of radiation.  There is some who believe that low doses are actually good for you (make the body's repair mechanisms more robust for larger doses*) and another group who believes the risk of getting cancer is linear with the dose. At every ANS conference there is always some group trying to put this question to rest, but the results are always sketchy - this is all a very complicated problem because even those some groups get different doses (i.e. next to a uranium mine, atop of a mountain or living in a basement with radon) the statistics are not there and it is difficult to compare between lifestyles and populations.
