Cooling Rain - Convection or Conduction?

It was real hot and muggy today, and I was picking peaches.  After about an hour all I wanted was some rain, so it would cool off (and we could stop picking).  It didn't rain, but it got me thinking about why it is always cooler after it rains.

I think that it must be because of the cooler rain droplets falling - more conduction than convection.  While the wind before a storm is generally cool, I don't think that it is the majority of the cooling.  Perhaps next time it storms I will take the temperature in the 15 minutes before the rain hits, and than 15 minutes after the rain hits to see which has the largest effect.
